What happens between drop-off and delivery.
The work that determines whether your installation lasts a decade or fails in eighteen months happens before any film is unrolled. This page walks through every step we take, why we take it, and how long it actually takes to do the job right.
The work you don't see is the work that matters most.
Most of the difference between an exceptional installation and an average one happens before any film comes off the roll or any coating leaves the bottle. Prep is where installations are made or quietly broken, and it is the work nobody sees in a finished photo.
Once paint protection film is applied, it stays on the vehicle for 10 to 12 years. Any contamination, scratch, or swirl underneath is locked in for that entire period. Once tint is squeegeed onto glass, every speck of dust trapped between film and surface is visible from the driver's seat for the life of the install. Once ceramic coating cures over a panel with unaddressed swirls, those swirls are not just preserved. They are amplified by the gloss of the coating itself.
The implication is straightforward. The condition of the surface at the moment film or coating goes down is the condition you live with for years. We invest hours in prep before the first piece of film comes off the roll because that is the only window in which we can affect the long-term result.
Every PPF, ceramic coating, window tint, and windshield protection installation begins with a full exterior hand wash
Vehicles stay in our climate-controlled bays from intake to delivery. Never parked outside.
Every PPF installation includes a complimentary first wash and inspection at our shop, scheduled by you when the film is ready
"We know exactly what the cars on our lifts are worth to the people who own them. Our prep reflects that math."
Operating principle, applied to every vehicle on every lift.
The Auto Cosmetics difference.
What separates our installations from the shop down the street is not the films we install. Most of the major film manufacturers sell to anyone with a credit line. The difference is the prep, the protection, and the discipline we bring to every vehicle on every lift.
The Standout
We are the only shop in Arizona that hand-washes every vehicle before installing window tint.
Window tint goes on glass, but contaminants come from everywhere else on the vehicle. The dust on your door panels, the grit in your weather seals, the brake dust on your wheels: all of it transfers to gloves, tools, and ultimately to the freshly squeegeed film. A full exterior hand wash before tint installation keeps that contamination out of the work area and off the surface.
Polish before paint protection film
Before PPF goes on, we polish the paint to remove existing waxes, sealants, and product residue and to enhance gloss and color depth. Once film is installed, the surface underneath is preserved for a decade. We make sure the version you preserve is the best one. (Paint correction for swirl or scratch removal is a separate service available before installation when paint condition warrants it.)
Full glass decontamination before window tint
Glass cleaner alone removes what is loose. On every tint installation, we remove what is bonded too: sticker adhesive, mineral spots, rail dust, and embedded debris. Razor blade pass, clay, isopropyl wipe, lint-free final pass under directional light.
Full interior protection during window tint
Window tint is the service where we work inside the cabin. Plastic seat covers, floor mats, taped door cards, dashboard cover, steering wheel cover, and headliner protection go on before any film comes out. The interior leaves exactly as it arrived.
Complimentary 10-day courtesy wash and PPF inspection
After every paint protection film installation, when the film has cured and the vehicle is ready for its first wash (around the 10-day mark), you schedule a complimentary wash with us. While we wash it, we inspect the install to confirm the film cured properly. One visit, two outcomes.
Two-bucket method on every wash
The same protocol we recommend for ongoing care, applied to every pre-installation wash we perform. One bucket for soap, one for rinse, grit guards in both. This is the standard our installations are built on.
Vehicles never stored outside
From the moment your vehicle arrives until you pick it up, it stays in our climate-controlled bays. Never parked outside in Arizona heat. Never exposed to UV, dust, or weather during the initial cure period that sets the foundation for long-term adhesion.

Paint Protection Film process.
PPF is the most prep-intensive service we offer. The reason is simple: the film stays on for a decade or more, and the paint underneath is preserved exactly as we found it. Every step below happens specifically for paint protection film.
Paint Protection Film installation
Time: 1 day to over a week- Vehicle intake and documentation. Walk-around with the customer or via intake photos. Existing chips, scratches, swirls, and prior repairs are documented before anything is touched.
- Pre-rinse and foam pre-wash. Low-pressure rinse removes loose debris. pH-neutral snow foam dwells on the panel to lift contaminants chemically before any wash mitt makes contact.
- Two-bucket hand wash with grit guards. One bucket for soap, one for rinse. Mitt rinsed between every panel. Top-down working order. Wheels and lower panels last.
- Iron decontamination. Color-changing iron remover dissolves brake dust and rail dust embedded in the surface. The chemistry turns purple as it reacts, then rinses clean.
- Clay bar mechanical decontamination. Clay or clay mitt lubricated with detail spray, passed over every panel to remove bonded contaminants that survived the chemical decon.
- Final rinse and microfiber dry. Final pH-neutral rinse and immediate dry with high-GSM microfiber. No air-dry under any condition.
- Masking. All trim is masked before any polishing begins. Every time we polish, we mask first.
- Polish. This is the step most shops skip before PPF. We polish the paint with a dual-action machine to remove existing waxes, sealants, and product residue, and to enhance gloss and color depth. The surface that gets sealed under the film is the best version of the paint, not whatever it looked like when you dropped it off.
- Optional paint correction add-on. Not included in PPF installation. Paint correction (swirl, scratch, and oxidation removal) is a separate paid service. It is not bundled with PPF and is not part of the standard PPF installation workflow. If your paint shows defects at intake, we will recommend correction as an optional add-on and quote it separately. Performed before film installation only if scheduled and paid for as an additional service.
- Masking removal and IPA panel wipe. Masking is removed from trim. Isopropyl alcohol then wipes any polish oils or residues from the paint. The paint is now in its true, uncoated state, ready for film.
- Removal of emblems, trims, and panels. Emblems, trims, and any other panels required for a seamless installation are physically removed from the vehicle before film application. Components are kept organized and reinstalled after the film is applied. We do not film over emblems or trim.
- Pattern verification. Pre-cut patterns are verified against the specific vehicle. Bulk-cut patterns are templated by hand from oversized blanks.
- Slip and tack solution mixing. Application slip allows positioning. Tack solution activates adhesion when the film is in final position.
- Film application. Sections positioned, slipped into place, then squeegeed from center outward to displace water and air.
- Edge wrapping and heat sealing. Film is wrapped around panel edges and tucked into gaps, recesses, and seams. Wrapped edges are heat-set to seal against contamination and prevent delamination over the life of the film.
- Reinstallation of removed components. Emblems, trims, and panels removed before installation are reinstalled in their original positions on top of the cured film.
- Panel-by-panel inspection. Every panel inspected for trapped contaminants, edge integrity, alignment, and clarity before moving to the next.
- 12-hour indoor rest before delivery. Initial adhesion cure happens in our climate-controlled bay before the vehicle goes back into Arizona heat.
- Complimentary 10-day courtesy wash and PPF inspection. When your vehicle is ready for its first wash (around the 10-day mark), schedule it with us at no charge. We wash the vehicle and inspect the install to confirm the film cured properly.
Why a full-vehicle wrap takes over a week
A full vehicle is approximately 30 to 50 individual film sections, each one templated or pre-cut, individually applied, and individually inspected. Add the polish across every panel, 24 to 48 hours of installation time across multiple bays, and indoor cure between stages, and you arrive at a calendar week or more. Faster is possible. Better is not.
Ceramic Coating process.
Ceramic coating bonds to your clear coat at the molecular level. Whatever is on the paint at the moment of application is locked into that bond. Every step below happens specifically before and during ceramic coating application.
System X ceramic coating application
Time: 1 to 2 days plus 2 to 3 week cure- Vehicle intake and documentation. Walk-around with the customer or via intake photos. Existing paint condition is documented before any prep begins.
- Pre-rinse and foam pre-wash. Loose debris removed. pH-neutral snow foam dwells on the panel to lift contaminants chemically.
- Two-bucket hand wash with grit guards. One bucket for soap, one for rinse. Mitt rinsed between every panel. Top-down working order.
- Iron decontamination. Color-changing iron remover dissolves brake dust and rail dust embedded in the surface. Particles that bond to the coating later become rust spots, so they have to come out first.
- Clay bar mechanical decontamination. Removes bonded contaminants that survived chemical decon.
- Final rinse and microfiber dry. No air-dry. Hard water spotting before coating is a permanent problem because the coating will lock the spotting in.
- Masking. All trim is masked before any polishing begins. Every time we polish, we mask first.
- Polish. We polish the panels with a dual-action machine to remove existing waxes, sealants, and product residue and to enhance gloss. The coating bonds to the prepared surface, so the surface chemistry has to be clean and the gloss has to be at its best.
- Optional paint correction add-on. Not included in ceramic coating service. Paint correction (swirl, scratch, and oxidation removal) is a separate paid service. It is not bundled with ceramic coating. Because the coating amplifies whatever is underneath, we strongly recommend correction when paint shows defects. Performed before coating only if scheduled and paid for as an additional service.
- Masking removal and IPA panel prep. Masking is removed from trim. Isopropyl alcohol then wipes any polish oils or residues from the paint, ensuring the coating bonds to bare clear coat and not to residual product.
- Optional: Roof rails, emblems, or decals removed on request. By default, ceramic coating is applied around all existing trim, emblems, and decals. If you would like roof rails, emblems, or decals removed so the coating extends underneath them, request this at intake.
- Panel-by-panel coating application. Coating applied in defined sections (door, fender, hood half) with a microfiber applicator. Each section is timed precisely.
- Leveling wipe. Within a manufacturer-specific window, the coating is wiped to a uniform layer. Too early and product is removed. Too late and high spots cure permanently.
- Inspection for high spots. Panel by panel review. Any high spot found is leveled before it cures.
- Indoor cure begins. Vehicle stays in our climate-controlled bay for the first 6 hours. No exterior exposure until initial cure is complete.
- Delivery with cure instructions. No water for 7 days. No wash for 14 days. Full cure 2 to 3 weeks. Cure instructions are provided in person and through our Help Center.
Why polish matters more than the coating itself
A 10-year ceramic coating applied to a panel with dull, oxidized, or product-coated paint is a 10-year record of that condition. The coating does not hide imperfections. It amplifies gloss, which makes everything under it more visible. The polish step is what makes the gloss work for you, not against you.
Window Tint process.
The Standout, in detail
A clean exterior is a clean install. We are the only shop in Arizona that hand-washes every vehicle before window tint.
Most shops treat tint as a glass-only service. We treat it as a precision installation that depends entirely on contamination control of the whole vehicle. Dust on your door panel transfers to gloves. Brake dust on your wheel transfers to the floor of the bay. Pollen on the weather seal transfers to the squeegee. All of it ends up under the film, where it lives until the film is replaced.
Window tint installation
Time: 2 hours to a full day- Exterior hand wash. The reason we stand alone in Arizona. Full two-bucket wash of the entire vehicle, even though only the windows are being treated. Removes the contamination reservoir before installation begins.
- Interior protection. Plastic seat covers, floor mats, dashboard cover, steering wheel cover, taped door cards, fabric headliner cover. The interior is sealed off before any glass work starts.
- Glass exterior cleaning. Two-stage clean with glass cleaner and microfiber. Removes loose surface contamination from the outside of the windows.
- Razor blade pass. Bonded adhesive residue from old stickers, decals, and registration tags is removed with a glass-safe blade. Glass cleaner cannot touch this.
- Clay bar on glass. Embedded particles, water spots, and rail dust are pulled out of the glass surface with automotive clay.
- Isopropyl wipe and lint-free final pass. Final cleaning step under directional light. Any remaining film, fiber, or speck is identified and removed.
- Film cutting. Pre-cut CAD patterns are verified against your specific glass. Custom or hand-cut patterns are templated and trimmed.
- Exterior shrinking. For compound-curve rear glass and side glass, film is laid on the exterior of the window and heat-shrunk to the contour before being moved inside for application.
- Interior application. Slip solution applied to the inside of the glass. Film positioned, then squeegeed from center outward to displace water and trapped air.
- Edge inspection under directional light. Every edge is verified. Any contamination found at this stage is addressed by removing and reapplying. We do not deliver tint with a known contaminant under the film.
- 1-hour indoor cure. Vehicle stays in our climate-controlled bay for one hour before delivery to allow the slip solution to set under the film.
- Customer walkthrough. Cure period explained in person. No roll-down for 4 to 7 days. Small water pockets resolve as moisture evaporates through the film.
Why we will not rush this
Each piece of glass is a separate installation. A sedan has six pieces of glass minimum, often more with a panoramic sunroof or quarter glass. Each piece requires its own clean, cut, shrink, apply, and inspect cycle. Quality requires unhurried hands. The film is on the glass for the life of the vehicle, and a single trapped speck is a daily reminder of a job we did not take seriously.
Windshield Protection Film process.
Windshield film is sacrificial by design. It is engineered to absorb the impact damage that would otherwise crack your glass. The installation is shorter than other services, but the prep is just as exacting because the film sits in the driver's line of sight.
Windshield Protection Film installation
Time: 2 to 3 hours- Vehicle intake. Walk-around to identify any existing windshield damage or wiper wear.
- Windshield-specific decontamination. Sap removal, bird-dropping residue removal, and hard water spot inspection. Each of these requires a different chemistry.
- Wiper blade inspection. Worn wipers will scratch new film within weeks. If your blades show any wear, we recommend replacement before installation. Damaged wipers are the most common cause of premature WPF failure.
- Isopropyl wipe. Final lint-free pass under good lighting. Any contaminant on the glass at this point will be visible through the film for years.
- Pre-cut film application. ExoShield is supplied with vehicle-specific pre-cut patterns. Pattern is verified, then positioned and squeegeed.
- Edge sealing. Edge bond is heat-set to ensure long-term adhesion against wiper action.
- Customer walkthrough. No wipers for 24 to 48 hours. Cure complete at 14 days.
Quality control standards.
Every installation is inspected before it leaves our shop. Below are the checks we sign off on before we hand back the keys.
Your complimentary 10-day PPF courtesy wash and inspection
After every paint protection film installation, you receive a complimentary first wash and inspection at our shop. When your vehicle is ready for its first wash (around the 10-day mark, once the film has fully cured), schedule the appointment through the link below. While we wash the vehicle, we inspect the install to confirm the film cured properly and address any concerns before they have a chance to become anything.
Schedule Your Courtesy Wash ›Time investment by service.
The chart below shows typical active labor hours for each service we offer. These are conservative estimates. Complex vehicles, severe paint condition, or full-vehicle scope can extend each range. Paint correction, when scheduled, is a separate service and adds to the install time shown.
Hours of hands-on work, not including cure time. Cure adds 14 to 21 additional days for ceramic coating.
Active labor hours. Complex vehicles, severe paint condition, or specialty work can extend each range. Ceramic coating cure adds 14 to 21 days before warranty performance metrics apply.
Why our installations take longer
If a shop can finish a full PPF wrap in two days, they are not doing the paint correction. If a tint job is done in 90 minutes, the vehicle was not hand-washed first. The work either happens or it does not, and the time it takes is roughly fixed by the number of square inches being treated and the number of inspection points along the way.
"If we can install it in half the time, we should not be installing it. Faster than the work allows means corners were cut, and the customer pays for those corners eventually."
The principle we apply to every quote we write and every install we schedule.
