What Is a Clear Bra

A clear bra is paint protection film. Same product, original name.

A clear bra is a transparent urethane film, about 8.5 to 10 mil thick, installed over the painted panels that take the most abuse: the front bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors. It absorbs rock chips, sand blast, and road rash so your paint does not have to, and its self-healing top coat erases light swirls and scratches with heat from the Arizona sun.

The name comes from the vinyl "car bras" drivers strapped on decades ago. Today's clear bra does the same job invisibly and permanently. In the industry it is called paint protection film, or PPF, and the two terms mean exactly the same thing. If you want the full technical breakdown, film comparisons, and every published price by vehicle, our paint protection film page goes deeper.

Auto Cosmetics® installs FlexiShield and STEK films, computer-cut by pattern software to your vehicle's exact dimensions before they ever touch your car. We are spec-driven, not brand-locked, so you get the right film for your vehicle at a published price, never a forced label.

    Why Arizona Cars Need It

Rock chips are not cosmetic. They are the start of paint failure.

Arizona freeways throw gravel, sand, and 110 degree UV at your front end every single day. A chip through the clear coat exposes bare metal, and repainting a bumper or hood costs more than protecting both for a decade.

    Stops rock chips cold

8.5 to 10 mil of urethane absorbs the impact energy of gravel and road debris that chips unprotected paint on the 101, 202, and I-10.

    Self-heals in the sun

Light swirls and wash marks in the film's top coat disappear with heat. In Arizona, the sun does the work for you.

    Invisible on the car

Computer-cut patterns wrap panel edges with no visible lines. Gloss film disappears on any color, on any finish.

    Protects resale value

A chip-free front end and original paint are the first things an appraiser and the next buyer look for.

"I received a PPF full front and rear bumper. My last Audi was full of paint chips so I didn't want to go through that experience again. I was looking for a company that had a good reputation and a decent guarantee and ended up here. This was a great decision. Professional service."

    Clear Bra Questions

    Answers before you book

What is a clear bra for cars?
A clear bra is a transparent, self-healing urethane film installed over your car's most exposed painted panels, usually the front bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors. It absorbs rock chips and road debris impacts so the paint underneath stays perfect. Clear bra and paint protection film (PPF) are two names for the same product.
How much does a clear bra cost?
Published starting prices for a mini vehicle with FlexiShield 8.5 mil film: Front Bumper from $479, Essential from $559, Partial Front from $769, Full Front from $1,299, Track Package from $2,229, and Full Body from $4,719. Coupes start at $1,349 for a Full Front, and larger vehicles are priced by size. Every price is published in the vehicle price search on this page, so you see your exact installed price before you book.
Is a clear bra the same as PPF?
Yes. Clear bra is the traditional name and paint protection film (PPF) is the industry name for the same urethane film. Some drivers also call it an invisible bra, clear wrap, or rock chip protection film. Whatever you call it, the product, the prices, and the installation are identical.
Is a clear bra worth it in Arizona?
If you plan to keep your vehicle more than a year or two, usually yes. Repainting a front bumper typically costs more than protecting it, a repaint never matches factory paint quality, and Arizona's gravel-heavy freeways and intense UV are among the hardest conditions in the country on automotive paint. A clear bra protects the original factory finish for up to 12 years.
Does a clear bra really self-heal?
Yes. The film's elastomeric top coat re-flows when heated, so light swirl marks and fine scratches in the film disappear with sun exposure or warm water. Deeper gouges that cut through the film do not heal, but that is the film sacrificing itself to save your paint, and a single damaged panel of film can be replaced.
Clear bra or ceramic coating, which should I get?
They solve different problems. A clear bra physically absorbs rock chips; a ceramic coating adds gloss, slickness, and chemical protection but cannot stop a stone. Many customers do both: film on the impact zones, coating over everything. Our guide on paint protection film vs ceramic coatings covers the decision in depth.
Can I get a clear bra on a truck or SUV?
Yes. Trucks and SUVs benefit most from front-end protection because they see freeway miles, job sites, and desert roads. Coverage packages are the same, prices scale with panel size, and every truck and SUV price is published in the vehicle price search on this page.
How long does clear bra installation take?
Most front-end packages are completed the same day. Full body coverage typically takes two to three days because every painted panel is wrapped and edges are tucked. We confirm your exact timeline when you drop off, and we hand-wash and prep every vehicle before film touches it.

Protect the paint while it is still perfect
